My latest single, SWEET CONCRETE is done and will be streaming soon! (Dec 21). For the past two years I’ve been focused on finishing songs that were in a demo state on a shelf. These are songs that mark very special times in my life as a songwriter. Sweet Concrete marks a time of transition for me in NYC in the early 2000s. I had returned from London where I had finished my time working on a music project and I had no idea what was next. Literally. No signs of work on the horizon. The uncertainty led to dark thoughts that challenged my confidence and belief in my ability to make a living as an Artist. Of course, when you’re at your lowest, the worst thoughts make themselves readily available to aid you in self sabotage behavior. The demo of Sweet Concrete practically wrote itself during a late night jam session with just me on acoustic guitar and drummer, Marty Lowe in an 8 minute loop of just the song’s main melodic riff and the almost tribal/military beat on bongo drums. It was raw, emotional, and truthful. It spoke of making it through the dark, while also not ignoring it…being stronger because you identified it, embraced it, then chose to overcome it. Being soft enough to recognize and love yourself through your weakest moments, but also strong enough to climb out of those cracks in the sweet concrete.
